Description

Copycat recipe for Olive Garden breadsticks with a soft interior and golden crust.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water (100-110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons warm water (100-110°F)
  • 1 packet instant yeast (2 ¼ teaspoons)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (or honey)
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1¾ teaspoons table salt
  • 34 cups bread flour
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (or garlic salt and skip the flaky salt)
  • ½ teaspoon flaky salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside until needed.
  2. Add the warm water, instant yeast, granulated sugar, melted butter, and table salt to the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook attachment.
  3. Mix to combine and let it sit for 10 minutes to give the yeast time to activate.
  4. With the mixer on low speed, gradually add 3 cups of bread flour to the yeast mixture.
  5. Increase speed to medium and knead the dough for about 10 minutes or until it is tacky and very elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add more flour two tablespoons at a time until you get the desired consistency.
  6. Wet your hands slightly and remove the dough from the mixer. Place the finished dough in a lightly oiled bowl and cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap.
  7. Let the dough rest in a warm draft-free area of the kitchen until it has doubled in size (about 60-90 minutes).
  8. When the dough has doubled in size, divide it into 12 equal portions.
  9. Roll each piece of dough into an 8-9 inch log.
  10. Place the logs on your parchment-lined baking sheet about 2 inches apart. Cover them with a clean kitchen towel (or plastic wrap) and let them rise in a draft-free area of the kitchen until almost doubled in size (about 45-60 minutes).
  11. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
  12. Place the baking sheet on the center rack of the preheated oven and bake for 10 to 14 minutes or until golden brown.
  13. While the breadsticks are baking, melt the butter in a saucepan or microwave, add the garlic powder, and whisk to combine.
  14. Remove the pan from the oven and immediately brush the breadsticks with the melted garlic butter.
  15. Sprinkle the tops of the breadsticks with flaky sea salt and serve warm.
