Description

A classic Italian comfort dish featuring spaghetti tossed in a rich and hearty Bolognese sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 carrot (finely chopped)
  • 1 celery stalk (finely chopped)
  • 1 can (14 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 pound spaghetti
  • Fresh parsley (chopped, for garnish)
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Sauté the vegetables: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, carrot, and celery, and sauté until the vegetables are softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Brown the meat: Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
  3. Create the sauce: Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and beef broth. Season with dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low and let it cook for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Cook the spaghetti: While the sauce is simmering, cook the spaghetti according to package instructions in a large pot of salted boiling water until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  5. Combine and serve: Once the sauce has thickened and the flavors have melded, toss the cooked spaghetti with the sauce until well coated. Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley and a generous sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese.

Notes

  • Substitution Suggestions:
  • Ground Beef: Use ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
  • Crushed Tomatoes: Substitute with diced tomatoes or tomato sauce if preferred.
  • Spaghetti: Any pasta shape can be used, such as fettuccine or penne.
