Ingredients

  • 5 tablespoons butter (melted and cooled)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup light brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 very ripe bananas
  • ¼ cup sour cream
  • 2 ¼ cups flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips or chocolate chunks (reserve 2 tablespoons for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 320ºF (160ºC). Line a 2-pound loaf tin with baking parchment.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, light brown sugar, eggs, vegetable oil, and sour cream. Add the melted and cooled butter, and mix until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, mash the ripe bananas until smooth. Stir the mashed bananas into the wet mixture.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and 1 cup of chocolate chips.
  5. Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf tin. Sprinkle the reserved 2 tablespoons of chocolate chips on top.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-45 minutes, or until a skewer or toothpick inserted into the center comes out with just a few moist crumbs.
  8. Allow the bread to cool in the tin for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
