- 1 cup Whole milk
- 1/2 cup Heavy cream
- 4 large Large eggs
- 2 tablespoons Grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoons Grated Pecorino cheese
- 1 tablespoon Coarse black pepper
- 1 clove Garlic (grated)
- 2 dashes Hot sauce
- 1 cup Panko bread crumbs
- 2 tablespoons Unsalted butter (for cooking)
- 4 slices Thick-cut sourdough or French bread (day-old)
- 2 tablespoons Chopped fresh parsley
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 250°F and place a wire rack over a baking sheet.
- In a shallow bowl, whisk together the whole milk, heavy cream, eggs, 2 tablespoons each of grated Parmesan and Pecorino cheese, 1 tablespoon of coarse black pepper, grated garlic, and a few dashes of hot sauce.
- In another shallow bowl, mix together the Panko bread crumbs with the remaining grated cheeses and black pepper.
- Over moderate heat, brush a large griddle or skillet with melted butter. Dip each slice of bread into the custard mixture, then coat both sides with the bread crumb mix before placing them in the hot pan. Cook for 3-4 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
- Serve with additional Parmesan, black pepper, and fresh parsley on top. Plate with arugula salad, a fried egg, or prosciutto for extra flair.
