  • 1 package store-bought croissant dough (usually 8 rolls)
  • 8 thin slices ham (about 6 oz or 170g), preferably smoked deli ham
  • 8 slices cheese (about 4 oz or 115g), Swiss or Gruyère recommended
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon milk (15 ml)
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
  • Fresh herbs like thyme or chives (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Unroll croissant dough onto a clean surface. If not pre-cut, slice into 8 equal triangles.
  3. Lay one slice of ham on each dough triangle, leaving a small border around edges. Add a slice of cheese on top. If using, spread mustard on dough before ham and sprinkle herbs over cheese.
  4. Roll up croissants starting at the wide end toward the point, curving ends inward to form crescent shape. Place on prepared baking sheet, point side down.
  5. Whisk egg and milk in a small bowl. Brush each croissant with egg wash.
  6. Bake for 15-18 minutes until croissants are puffed, golden, and cheese is melted. Check after 12 minutes to avoid burning.
  7. Let croissants cool on a rack for about 5 minutes before serving.
