Description
This sausage gravy and biscuits recipe is the ultimate Southern breakfast comfort food. Made with creamy, peppery sausage gravy served over warm, fluffy biscuits, it’s a hearty and easy-to-make classic.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound breakfast sausage
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 1/2 cups milk
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 6 warm biscuits (homemade or canned)
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the breakfast sausage. Cook until fully browned, breaking it up with a spoon, about 7 to 10 minutes.
- Do not drain the fat. Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage and stir well to coat. Cook for 2 minutes to eliminate raw flour taste.
- Slowly pour in the milk while stirring continuously. Simmer the mixture for 5 to 7 minutes until the gravy thickens.
- Add salt and black pepper to taste. Stir and adjust seasoning as needed.
- Split open warm biscuits and ladle sausage gravy generously over each. Serve immediately and enjoy.
