These Red Velvet Sugar Cookies are soft, chewy, and perfect for any occasion, especially Valentine’s Day. They have a rich red velvet flavor with a white chocolate peanut butter heart in the center.

- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar, plus extra for rolling
- 1 large egg yolk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon red gel food coloring
- 1/2 cup + 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/8 teaspoon fine salt
- 6 white chocolate peanut butter hearts (like Reese’s)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a small baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
- In a medium bowl, stir together the melted butter, sugar, egg yolk, vanilla extract, and red food coloring until fully combined.
- Sprinkle the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt evenly over the wet ingredients. Stir until everything is just combined into a dough.
- Flatten the dough and divide it into six even portions. Roll each portion into a ball and coat in granulated sugar.
- Place the dough balls on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them evenly apart. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until they start to crackle and appear dry on top.
- Let the cookies rest on the baking sheet for 2 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Once the cookies have cooled for about 10 minutes, gently press a white chocolate peanut butter heart into the center of each cookie. Allow them to cool in the fridge for 30 minutes to set the hearts.
