- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 3 cups powdered sugar, sifted

Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
- In a large bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
- In another bowl, mix granulated sugar and vegetable oil. Add eggs one at a time while mixing gently. Stir in buttermilk, vanilla extract, and red food coloring until smooth.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
- Fill each cupcake liner about two-thirds full with batter and bake for about 18–20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Once cupcakes are completely cooled, whip together softened butter, cream cheese, powdered sugar, and green food coloring until smooth and fluffy.
- Decorate each cupcake generously with frosting to resemble Christmas trees.
