Pretzel Turtles with Caramel: 7 Irresistible Sweet Treats

  • Author: basmer
  • Total Time: 1 hour 30 minutes
  • Yield: 35 pretzel turtles 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

Delicious Pretzel Turtles combine the perfect balance of salty pretzels, sweet caramel, roasted pecans, and rich semi-sweet chocolate, topped with a hint of fleur de sel for a gourmet twist. These bite-sized treats are easy to make and perfect for sharing at parties or enjoying as a special snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 35 pecan halves
  • 35 pretzel twists
  • 35 caramels
  • 12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon fleur de sel

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F to prepare for roasting the pecans and softening the caramels.
  2. Spread the pecan halves on a baking sheet and roast them in the oven for about 5 minutes or until they become aromatic, enhancing their flavor.
  3. Line a baking sheet with Silpat or parchment paper. Place the pretzel twists on the sheet in rows (7 rows of 5 pretzels each). Set one caramel on top of each pretzel.
  4. Place the baking sheet back in the oven and bake for 5 to 6 minutes. Watch carefully to soften the caramels without melting them completely. Once softened, press a roasted pecan half gently on top of each caramel.
  5. Melt the semi-sweet chocolate chips in the microwave using 30-second intervals, stirring between each until the chocolate is smooth and fully melted.
  6. Remove the pretzels from the baking sheet. Spoon small dollops (about half a tablespoon) of melted chocolate onto the Silpat or parchment paper. Gently press each pretzel onto a chocolate dollop to secure it. Continue until all pretzels are covered. Drizzle any leftover chocolate over the top and sprinkle each with fleur de sel.
  7. Let the pretzel turtles cool completely to set the chocolate and caramel. To speed up the process, refrigerate for about 30 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Store in an airtight container for freshness.
  • Can substitute walnuts for pecans if desired.
  • Use dark chocolate for a richer flavor.
