Description

A classic Philly cheese steak sandwich featuring thinly sliced ribeye steak, melted provolone cheese, and sautéed onions, peppers, and mushrooms, all served on a toasted hoagie roll. This recipe brings the iconic Philadelphia street food experience to your kitchen.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb Ribeye steak, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • 1 large Onion, sliced
  • 1 Green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 cup Mushrooms, sliced
  • 6 slices Provolone cheese
  • 4 Hoagie rolls
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Freeze ribeye steak for 30 minutes to firm it for easier slicing.
  2. Slice the onion, green bell pepper, and mushrooms.
  3. Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook onions until golden, then add peppers and mushrooms until tender. Remove vegetables from skillet.
  4. Add remaining 1 tbsp olive oil to the skillet. Increase heat and cook thinly sliced steak until browned. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Return cooked vegetables to the skillet with the steak and mix.
  6. Place provolone cheese slices over the steak and vegetable mixture. Cover for 1 minute until cheese melts. Stir gently.
  7. Slice hoagie rolls lengthwise, leaving one side attached. Toast until warm and crisp.
  8. Spoon the cheesy steak and vegetable mixture into each hoagie roll.
  9. Press the sandwich slightly to help the filling hold together.
  10. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For a creamier texture, try American cheese or Cheez Whiz instead of provolone.
  • Add banana peppers or jalapeños for a spicy kick.
  • Use whole wheat rolls for a lighter option.
  • Spread garlic butter on rolls before toasting for added flavor.
  • Skip mushrooms if preferred, or double them for an earthier taste.
