Description
A classic Philly cheese steak sandwich featuring thinly sliced ribeye steak, melted provolone cheese, and sautéed onions, peppers, and mushrooms, all served on a toasted hoagie roll. This recipe brings the iconic Philadelphia street food experience to your kitchen.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb Ribeye steak, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp Olive oil
- 1 large Onion, sliced
- 1 Green bell pepper, sliced
- 1 cup Mushrooms, sliced
- 6 slices Provolone cheese
- 4 Hoagie rolls
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Freeze ribeye steak for 30 minutes to firm it for easier slicing.
- Slice the onion, green bell pepper, and mushrooms.
- Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook onions until golden, then add peppers and mushrooms until tender. Remove vegetables from skillet.
- Add remaining 1 tbsp olive oil to the skillet. Increase heat and cook thinly sliced steak until browned. Season with salt and pepper.
- Return cooked vegetables to the skillet with the steak and mix.
- Place provolone cheese slices over the steak and vegetable mixture. Cover for 1 minute until cheese melts. Stir gently.
- Slice hoagie rolls lengthwise, leaving one side attached. Toast until warm and crisp.
- Spoon the cheesy steak and vegetable mixture into each hoagie roll.
- Press the sandwich slightly to help the filling hold together.
- Serve immediately.
Notes
- For a creamier texture, try American cheese or Cheez Whiz instead of provolone.
- Add banana peppers or jalapeños for a spicy kick.
- Use whole wheat rolls for a lighter option.
- Spread garlic butter on rolls before toasting for added flavor.
- Skip mushrooms if preferred, or double them for an earthier taste.
