Description

Ingredients

  • 4 oz dark chocolate (60% cocoa or higher)
  • 1 tablespoon instant espresso powder
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 egg whites (optional, for extra fluffiness)
  • Crushed peppermint candies or chocolate shavings, for topping

Instructions

  1. Break the dark chocolate into pieces and melt using a double boiler or microwave in short bursts. Stir in the espresso powder and set aside to cool slightly.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  3. Stir the peppermint extract into the cooled chocolate. Gently fold this into the whipped cream until well combined.
  4. If using, beat the egg whites in a separate bowl until stiff peaks form. Fold them into the mousse mixture for a lighter texture.
  5. Spoon or pipe the mousse into serving cups or jars. Chill for at least 2 hours.
  6. Before serving, top with crushed peppermint candies or chocolate shavings and an optional dollop of whipped cream.
