Overnight cinnamon rolls are a convenient way to enjoy fresh, homemade rolls with minimal morning effort. Prepare the dough and filling the night before, then bake them in the morning for a delicious treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups All purpose flour
  • ½ cup Granulated sugar
  • 2 ¼ tsp Active dry yeast
  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • ½ cup Unsalted butter
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 1 tsp Salt

  1. Warm milk and mix with yeast and a pinch of sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Combine flour, granulated sugar, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Add softened butter, eggs, and yeast mixture to dry ingredients. Stir until dough forms.
  4. Knead dough on a floured surface for 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
  6. Roll dough into a rectangle, spread with softened butter.
  7. Mix brown sugar and cinnamon, sprinkle over buttered dough.
  8. Roll dough tightly into a log and slice into even rolls.
  9. Place rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and refrigerate overnight.
  10. The next morning, let rolls rise for 45 minutes.
  11. Bake at 350°F for 25 minutes until golden.
  12. Prepare glaze by beating cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
  13. Spread glaze over warm rolls before serving.

Notes

  • For extra richness, add chopped pecans or walnuts to the filling.
  • Add raisins or dried cranberries for a fruity twist.
  • Try adding orange zest or maple syrup to the glaze for a seasonal flavor.
  • For a lighter option, use a simple powdered sugar drizzle with milk and vanilla.
  • Serve with coffee, chai, or milk.
  • Pair with fruit salad or scrambled eggs for a balanced meal.
