Description

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons orange zest
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 4 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1/4 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons orange juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour a 12-cup bundt pan, or use baking spray with flour. Set aside.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter until pale in color, about 3 minutes. Add in sugar and orange zest, and beat an additional 3 minutes.
  4. Add in eggs, one at a time, then add the orange juice, vanilla extract, and sour cream. Gradually add the dry ingredients and mix until combined.
  5. Spoon batter into the prepared bundt pan. Bake for 50-55 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out with crumbs.
  6. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 15 minutes, then invert onto a cake plate.
  7. While the cake is warm, poke small holes into the top with toothpicks.
  8. In a small saucepan, combine sugar and orange juice for the syrup. Whisk until dissolved, then simmer for about 2 minutes. Brush the syrup over the warm cake.
  9. Once the cake is completely cooled, make the icing by whisking powdered sugar and orange juice until smooth. Spoon the icing over the cake and let it run down the sides.
