Description
Mini lobster rolls combine tender lobster meat with a creamy, citrus-bright dressing tucked into buttery, toasted rolls. A perfect bite-sized treat for parties and summer gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb cooked lobster meat (mix of claw and tail preferred), chopped into bite-size pieces
- 2–3 tbsp mayonnaise (light mayo optional)
- 1–2 tbsp softened butter
- 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
- 1–2 tbsp finely chopped celery
- Optional flavor boosters: 1–2 tsp capers (chopped)
- Dash Worcestershire sauce or pinch of cayenne
- Small pinch Old Bay seasoning
- Fresh herbs: chives, parsley, or dill
- Kosher salt and black pepper, to taste
- 12 mini split-top rolls or pull-apart dinner rolls (e.g., Hawaiian, brioche, Martin’s)
- Melted butter (for brushing/toasting)
- Lemon wedges
- Optional garnishes: chopped chives, parsley, paprika or Old Bay
Instructions
- If cooking fresh lobster: boil live lobsters in salted water for 8–12 minutes until shells turn bright red.
- Remove meat from claws, knuckles, and tail.
- Chop lobster into small bite-size chunks.
- If using pre-cooked meat: thaw completely and drain well to avoid watery filling.
- In a bowl, combine lobster meat with mayonnaise, softened butter, celery, and lemon juice.
- Add optional capers, Worcestershire, or cayenne sparingly.
- Season with salt, pepper, and add fresh herbs (chives/parsley/dill).
- Mix gently to avoid breaking the lobster pieces.
- Chill 30 minutes to meld flavors.
- Butter the outside of the mini rolls.
- Toast in a skillet over medium heat until golden and crisp.
- This prevents sogginess and adds flavor.
- Spoon chilled lobster filling into each toasted mini roll.
- Don’t overfill; aim for an even lobster-to-bread balance.
- Add optional garnish: herbs, paprika/Old Bay, or a drizzle of melted butter.
- Serve immediately with lemon wedges.
- Arrange on a platter for parties or gatherings.
