Description
A cheesy, hearty casserole that combines the flavors of classic cheesesteak with a low carb twist, perfect for family dinners.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 lbs ground beef (preferably 80/20 fat ratio)
- 1 large onion, diced
- 2 large bell peppers (green, red, or mixed), diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 8 oz provolone cheese, sliced
- 1.5 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and spray a 9×13 baking dish with non-stick spray.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the diced onions and bell peppers to the hot oil, cooking for 5-6 minutes until they soften and become fragrant.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds, stirring constantly to avoid burning.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with your spatula as it cooks. Season generously with salt and pepper, cooking for 7-8 minutes until browned and no pink remains. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
- Stir in the Worcestershire sauce to coat the meat mixture, enhancing the flavors.
- Reduce the heat to low and add the softened cream cheese, stirring until it’s completely melted and creamy.
- Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly across the bottom.
- Layer the torn provolone pieces over the beef mixture, then sprinkle shredded mozzarella on top.
- Bake for 22-25 minutes until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly golden on top.
- Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
