Description
Enjoy the aromatic and comforting flavors of Lebanese Hashweh, a delightful spiced rice dish with ground meat and nuts.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound Ground Meat (Beef or Lamb) (Can substitute with turkey or chicken for lighter option)
- 1 medium Onion (Chopped)
- 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon Allspice
- 1 teaspoon Cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon Nutmeg
- 1 cup Basmati Rice (Can substitute with other long-grain rice; adjust cooking times accordingly)
- 1.5 cups Chicken Broth (Can use water as an alternative)
- 1/4 cup Pine Nuts (Toasted)
- 1/4 cup Slivered Almonds (Toasted)
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat a splash of oil over medium heat. Add chopped onions and sauté until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Introduce the ground meat to the pot. Cook until browned and the meat is no longer pink, about 6-8 minutes. Stir in the warm spices and mix well.
- Stir in the Basmati rice, ensuring each grain is coated with the meat mixture. Season with salt and stir for an additional 2 minutes.
- Pour in the chicken broth and bring to a rolling boil. Cover the pot, reduce heat to low, and allow to simmer for about 20 minutes.
- While the rice is cooking, toast the pine nuts and slivered almonds in a dry skillet over medium heat for about 3-4 minutes.
- After cooking, remove the pot from heat and let it stand covered for 5 minutes. Fluff the rice with a fork and top with the toasted nuts.
