Description
This Kentucky Hot Brown Pizza combines the rich flavors of the classic Hot Brown sandwich with the beloved format of pizza.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 Tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 Tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 cup whole milk
- Pinch of freshly ground pepper
- Freshly grated nutmeg (to taste)
- ½ cup shredded Gruyère or Swiss cheese
- 1 1-lb ball fresh pizza dough
- 1 cup chopped turkey
- 6 slices bacon (chopped)
- 2 roma tomatoes (sliced)
- 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Melt butter in a heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium-high heat. Stir in flour and cook, stirring constantly, for about 1 minute, making sure the mixture does not brown. Gradually add milk while whisking continuously. Bring the mixture to a low boil and cook for another 2 minutes, stirring constantly until thickened. Season with salt, pepper, and freshly grated nutmeg to taste. Remove from heat and fold in the shredded Gruyère or Swiss cheese. Allow the sauce to cool slightly.
- Set your oven to 450°F (232°C) and prepare a pizza stone or pizza pan for baking.
- Roll out the fresh pizza dough on your pizza stone or pizza pan to your preferred thickness and shape.
- Spread a generous layer of the warm Mornay sauce evenly over the pizza crust. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the sauce. Distribute the chopped turkey and chopped bacon evenly on top, followed by the sliced roma tomatoes. Finally, sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the entire pizza.
- Place the pizza in the preheated oven and bake for 15 to 18 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted, bubbly, and the crust is golden brown and crisp.
