Description
A traditional Irish bread made with baking soda as a leavening agent instead of yeast.
Ingredients

- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 large egg (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Make a well in the center and add the buttermilk and egg (if using).
- Mix until a dough forms, then turn onto a floured surface and knead gently.
- Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it on a baking sheet.
- Cut a cross on the top of the loaf.
- Bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
