Description

Hot Chocolate Mug Sugar Cookies are a delightful treat that combines the flavors of chocolate and sugar in a fun, festive shape.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for icing)
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for icing)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for icing)
  • Mini marshmallows (for topping)
  • Chocolate chips (for topping)
  • Crushed candy canes (optional, for a festive touch)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. If using, stir in the ground cinnamon.
  6. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.
  7. Use a cookie scoop or tablespoon to portion out the dough onto ungreased baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  8. If desired, shape the dough into a rounded mug shape by slightly flattening the tops and creating a small indentation for the “mug handle.”
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  10. Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  11. In a small bowl, mix the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  12. Drizzle the icing over the cooled cookies to resemble hot chocolate.
  13. Top with mini marshmallows, chocolate chips, and crushed candy canes for added decoration and flavor.

Notes

  • Chilling the dough helps create a firmer texture.
  • Adjust icing consistency to your preference.
  • Feel free to customize toppings based on your taste.
