Description

Homemade Glazed Donuts are easy to make and delicious. These soft, fluffy donuts come with a perfect vanilla glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/4 cup water (lukewarm)
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon cane sugar
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons sea salt
  • 1/4 cup cane sugar
  • 4 tablespoons salted butter (softened)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk (warm)
  • 4 tablespoons salted butter
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 48 ounces vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Start by adding the 1/4 cup of lukewarm water, active dry yeast and 1 teaspoon of sugar to a small glass measuring cup, whisking together until well dissolved. Set aside to proof.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream the rest of the sugar with the softened butter until well combined.
  4. Beat in each egg, one at a time, scraping the bowl as needed.
  5. Add the proofed yeast and warm buttermilk to the egg mixture and whisk together.
  6. Add the dry mixture to the wet mixture and mix until you have a soft, somewhat sticky dough.
  7. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
  8. Once risen, turn the dough out onto a floured work surface, roll it out to about 1/2″ thickness.
  9. Cut out donuts using a donut cutter.
  10. Place donuts on parchment paper, cover with a towel, and let rise for another 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
  11. While donuts are rising, mix the powdered sugar glaze in a saucepan over medium-low heat until the butter melts. Add powdered sugar and cornstarch to make the glaze smooth.
  12. Heat the oil in a skillet to 350-375ºF.
  13. Fry donuts, turning them once until golden brown on both sides.
  14. Place fried donuts on a wire rack to drip off excess oil.
  15. Coat each donut in the glaze and let them harden on parchment paper or a baking sheet.
  16. Enjoy your homemade donuts warm and fresh.
