Description
This Holiday Frittata with Mushrooms and Gruyère is an elegant and flavorful dish perfect for any holiday brunch. It features savory mushrooms, rich Gruyère cheese, and fresh herbs, creating a satisfying centerpiece for your festive table. It’s easy to make and can be served warm or at room temperature.
Ingredients
- 8 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk or cream
- 1 cup sliced mushrooms (cremini or button)
- 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (or 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme)
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Heat olive oil or butter in a large oven-safe skillet over medium heat. Add diced onion and sliced mushrooms. Sauté for 5-7 minutes until onions are translucent and mushrooms are tender. Season with salt, pepper, and thyme.
- In a large bowl, whisk eggs and milk (or cream) until combined. Stir in half of the Gruyère cheese.
- Pour the egg mixture over the sautéed vegetables in the skillet. Stir gently to distribute. Cook on the stovetop for 3-5 minutes until the edges begin to set.
- Sprinkle the remaining Gruyère cheese on top. Place the skillet in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until set and lightly golden.
- Remove from oven and let cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired. Slice and serve warm or at room temperature.
Notes
- For added nutrition and flavor, include other vegetables like spinach, bell peppers, or zucchini.
- Substitute Gruyère with cheddar, feta, or goat cheese for a different taste profile.
- Add a pinch of red pepper flakes or hot sauce for a spicy kick.
- This frittata pairs well with a light salad or fresh fruit, or crusty bread for a more substantial meal.
- Avoid overcooking to prevent a dry frittata; it should be set but moist.
- Ensure you use an oven-safe skillet.
- Do not skip seasoning the vegetables and egg mixture for enhanced flavor.
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat slices before serving.
