Description
Delicious Greek Psarosoupa: Comforting Fish Soup Recipe
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 whole White Fish (e.g., seabass, snapper)
- 2 medium Carrots
- 2 medium Potatoes
- 1 medium Onion
- 2 stalks Celery
- 1 leaf Bay Leaf
- to taste Salt
- to taste Black Pepper
- 6 cups Water or Fish Stock
- 1 medium Lemon
- 3 tablespoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- 1/4 cup Fresh Parsley
Instructions
- Rinse the fish under cold water, ensuring it’s clean and free of any scales or impurities. Set aside for later use in the soup.
- Boil in a large pot by bringing water or fish stock to a gentle boil. Add carrots, potatoes, onion, celery, and the bay leaf. Simmer for 10-12 minutes until the vegetables are slightly tender.
- Add the whole fish to the pot, seasoning it with salt and pepper. Reduce the heat to a simmer, cooking for 20-25 minutes until the fish flakes easily when tested with a fork.
- Remove the fish carefully from the pot and set it aside to cool. Check the vegetables; if they’re not tender yet, simmer a little longer.
- Debone and skin the cooled fish, breaking it into chunks. Return the fish pieces to the pot, integrating them with the vegetables and broth.
- Stir in the lemon juice and olive oil, tasting the soup to adjust the seasoning according to your preference.
- Serve the Psarosoupa hot, garnished with fresh parsley and a drizzle of olive oil. Enjoy it alongside fresh, crusty bread for the perfect meal.
