Description

Delicious Greek Psarosoupa: Comforting Fish Soup Recipe

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 whole White Fish (e.g., seabass, snapper)
  • 2 medium Carrots
  • 2 medium Potatoes
  • 1 medium Onion
  • 2 stalks Celery
  • 1 leaf Bay Leaf
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Black Pepper
  • 6 cups Water or Fish Stock
  • 1 medium Lemon
  • 3 tablespoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 1/4 cup Fresh Parsley

Instructions

  1. Rinse the fish under cold water, ensuring it’s clean and free of any scales or impurities. Set aside for later use in the soup.
  2. Boil in a large pot by bringing water or fish stock to a gentle boil. Add carrots, potatoes, onion, celery, and the bay leaf. Simmer for 10-12 minutes until the vegetables are slightly tender.
  3. Add the whole fish to the pot, seasoning it with salt and pepper. Reduce the heat to a simmer, cooking for 20-25 minutes until the fish flakes easily when tested with a fork.
  4. Remove the fish carefully from the pot and set it aside to cool. Check the vegetables; if they’re not tender yet, simmer a little longer.
  5. Debone and skin the cooled fish, breaking it into chunks. Return the fish pieces to the pot, integrating them with the vegetables and broth.
  6. Stir in the lemon juice and olive oil, tasting the soup to adjust the seasoning according to your preference.
  7. Serve the Psarosoupa hot, garnished with fresh parsley and a drizzle of olive oil. Enjoy it alongside fresh, crusty bread for the perfect meal.
