Description

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • For Frosting:
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • For Eyes:
  • Chocolate chips or raisins

Instructions

  1. Whisk together flour, baking soda, and cream of tartar in a bowl.
  2. In a separate bowl, cream together softened butter and powdered sugar until fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
  5. Divide the dough into two portions, wrap them in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  6. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  7. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to 1/4 inch thickness.
  8. Use a ghost-shaped cookie cutter to cut out ghost shapes and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  9. Bake for 7 minutes, or until the edges just begin to color.
  10. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  11. While the cookies cool, prepare the frosting by blending softened cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth.
  12. Once the cookies are completely cool, spread the cream cheese frosting over them.
  13. Press chocolate chips or raisins into the frosting to create eyes for your ghost sugar cookies.
