Instructions

  1. Sauté Onions: In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onions and cook, stirring frequently, until they are caramelized and golden brown (about 15-20 minutes).
  2. Add Flavor: Stir in the balsamic vinegar, dried thyme, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 2 minutes until well combined. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  3. Mix Sausage and Onions: In a large bowl, combine the ground sausage with the caramelized onion mixture. Mix until fully incorporated.
  4. Add Cheese: Fold in the shredded Gruyère cheese, mixing until evenly distributed.
  5. Prepare Puff Pastry: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheet to smooth out any creases. Cut it into rectangles (about 4×6 inches).
