Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 cup beef broth
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 hamburger buns (or hoagie rolls)
- 4 slices provolone cheese
- Butter for toasting the buns
- Optional: fresh parsley or chives for garnish
- Au jus (from the slow cooker or a pre-made packet)
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and chopped onion. Cook until the meat is browned and the onion is soft, about 5–7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
- Transfer the cooked beef and onions to your slow cooker. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, garlic powder, onion powder, and beef broth. Season with salt and pepper.
- Cover and cook on low for 4–5 hours or high for 2–3 hours.
- Butter the insides of your hamburger buns and toast them on a skillet or in the oven until golden brown.
- Place a slice of provolone on the bottom half of each bun. Spoon the French Dip Sloppy Joe mixture on top, allowing the heat to melt the cheese slightly. Top with the other bun half and serve warm with a small bowl of the au jus for dipping.
