- 2 cups (400g) granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs, room temperature
- 1 cup (85g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt

- 1/4 cup (60ml) strong brewed espresso or coffee, cooled
- 2 tablespoons Irish cream liqueur (optional)
- 1 1/2 cups (190g) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
- 2 cups (240g) powdered sugar, sifted (for frosting)
- 2 tablespoons strong brewed espresso or coffee, cooled (for frosting)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
- Pinch of salt (for frosting)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch (23×33 cm) baking pan with butter or line it with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter and granulated sugar until combined. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract, cooled espresso, and Irish cream liqueur if using.
- In a separate bowl, sift together cocoa powder, all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture with a rubber spatula until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Let the brownies cool completely in the pan on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes.
- For the frosting, beat softened butter until creamy using an electric mixer. Gradually add powdered sugar alternating with cooled espresso, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Beat until smooth and fluffy. Adjust consistency with coffee or powdered sugar as needed.
- Spread the frosting evenly over the cooled brownies. Slice into squares and serve.
