- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- 2 teaspoons ground ginger

- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 2 large eggs, at room temperature
- ½ cup molasses
- ½ cup milk, at room temperature
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2–4 tablespoons heavy cream, as needed
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and brown sugar for about 2 minutes until light and fluffy.
- Add molasses, milk, eggs, and vanilla extract, and mix thoroughly until fully combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Do not over-mix.
- Divide the batter evenly among the cupcake liners, filling each about ¾ full.
- Bake for 19-22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cupcakes cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- For the frosting, beat the cream cheese until fluffy, about 2 minutes.
- Add vanilla, cinnamon, and 2 tablespoons of heavy cream. Mix until smooth.
- Gradually add powdered sugar, mixing until smooth. Add more heavy cream if necessary to reach a spreadable consistency.
- Frost the cooled cupcakes with the cinnamon cream cheese frosting. Enjoy!
