Description
Classic Banana Pudding: A Delicious Dessert
Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 3/4 cups whole milk
- 3 large egg yolks, lightly beaten
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 4 ripe bananas, sliced
- 1 box (11 oz) vanilla wafers
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, whisk together the sugar, flour, and salt.
- Gradually add the milk, whisking until smooth.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens and begins to bubble (about 8-10 minutes).
- Remove from heat and whisk a small amount of the hot mixture into the beaten egg yolks to temper them. Then, gradually whisk the egg yolk mixture back into the saucepan.
- Return to heat and cook for an additional 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and butter until smooth. Allow the pudding to cool slightly.
- In a large serving dish or individual cups, layer the vanilla wafers, sliced bananas, and pudding. Start with a layer of wafers, followed by a layer of bananas, then a layer of pudding. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with pudding on top.
- In a mixing bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream with an electric mixer until soft peaks form.
- Add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, and continue to beat until stiff peaks form.
- Spread the whipped cream over the top layer of pudding. You can also add additional banana slices and crushed vanilla wafers for garnish if desired.
- Cover the dessert with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld and the wafers to soften.
Notes
- Use ripe bananas for the best flavor.
- Chill the dessert for optimal taste.
- Feel free to adjust sweetness to your preference.
