Description

Classic Banana Pudding: A Delicious Dessert

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 3/4 cups whole milk
  • 3 large egg yolks, lightly beaten
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 ripe bananas, sliced
  • 1 box (11 oz) vanilla wafers
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together the sugar, flour, and salt.
  2. Gradually add the milk, whisking until smooth.
  3. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens and begins to bubble (about 8-10 minutes).
  4. Remove from heat and whisk a small amount of the hot mixture into the beaten egg yolks to temper them. Then, gradually whisk the egg yolk mixture back into the saucepan.
  5. Return to heat and cook for an additional 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and butter until smooth. Allow the pudding to cool slightly.
  7. In a large serving dish or individual cups, layer the vanilla wafers, sliced bananas, and pudding. Start with a layer of wafers, followed by a layer of bananas, then a layer of pudding. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with pudding on top.
  8. In a mixing bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream with an electric mixer until soft peaks form.
  9. Add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, and continue to beat until stiff peaks form.
  10. Spread the whipped cream over the top layer of pudding. You can also add additional banana slices and crushed vanilla wafers for garnish if desired.
  11. Cover the dessert with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld and the wafers to soften.

Notes

  • Use ripe bananas for the best flavor.
  • Chill the dessert for optimal taste.
  • Feel free to adjust sweetness to your preference.
