Description

A delightful, easy-to-make festive buttermilk bread with vibrant Christmas sprinkles, offering a moist, tender texture and a delicious vanilla flavor. Perfect for holiday breakfasts, snacks, or gifts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ¾ cups (210g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup (240ml) buttermilk
  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ½ cup red and green sprinkles (jimmies style)
  • 1 tablespoon coarse sugar
  • Additional sprinkles for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Generously grease and line two standard 8.5×4.5-inch loaf pans (or one larger 9×5-inch pan) with parchment paper slings.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  3. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the room-temperature eggs, buttermilk, melted and cooled unsalted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Using a rubber spatula, gently fold the mixture until just combined and no dry streaks of flour remain. Be careful not to overmix, as this can lead to a tough bread.
  5. Gently fold in ½ cup of the red and green sprinkles into the batter until evenly distributed. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared loaf pans and smooth the tops.
  6. Bake for approximately 45-55 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and a wooden skewer inserted into the center of a loaf comes out clean or with just a few moist crumbs.
  7. Remove loaves from the oven and let them cool in their pans on a wire rack for 10-15 minutes. Then, carefully remove them from the pans and place them directly on the wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Once completely cool, sprinkle the tops of the loaves with coarse sugar and additional sprinkles before slicing and serving.
  9. Store any leftover Christmas Sprinkle Buttermilk Bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3-4 days. For longer storage, wrap tightly and freeze for up to 2-3 months.

Notes

  • Let the eggs come to room temperature for better mixing.
  • Don’t overmix the batter to maintain a tender texture.
  • Feel free to use different colored sprinkles for a festive touch.
