Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm milk
- ½ cup brown butter
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
- 1 cup pecans
- ¼ cup butter
- ½ cup heavy cream
- ¼ cup powdered sugar
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl or stand mixer, combine 4 cups of all-purpose flour, 2 tablespoons of active dry yeast, 1 cup of warm milk (110°F), ½ cup of brown butter, 2 eggs, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Mix on medium speed until smooth and elastic, about 5–7 minutes.
- Transfer the dough to a lightly greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise for approximately 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- While the dough is rising, mix ½ cup of brown sugar, 1 tablespoon of cinnamon, 1 tablespoon of orange zest, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract in a separate bowl.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down gently, then divide into four equal pieces. Roll each into a thin circle on a floured surface.
- Spread the filling over the first circle, top with another circle, and repeat until all layers are stacked. Cut into a star shape, leaving the center intact.
- Carefully twist the outer strands away from each other, sealing the tips together to maintain the star shape.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Let the star bread rest for 20 minutes. Bake for about 25–30 minutes until golden brown.
- Once baked, cool slightly, drizzle with warm pecan caramel sauce, and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
