Description
This Christmas Crack Recipe is a sweet, salty, and crunchy holiday favorite made with buttery toffee, melted chocolate, and festive sprinkles. It’s quick to prepare, addictively delicious, and perfect for gifting or sharing during the holidays.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 sleeve Saltine crackers (about 35–40 crackers) — or substitute with Ritz or graham crackers
- 1 cup unsalted butter (salted butter works too)
- 1 cup brown sugar (light or dark)
- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips (or swap for white, dark, or milk chocolate)
- Sprinkles or toppings: chopped nuts, crushed peppermints, M&Ms, toffee bits, or flaky sea salt
Instructions
- Prep: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a 10×15-inch baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper and lightly grease.
- Arrange crackers: Lay Saltine crackers in a single, even layer to cover the entire pan.
- Make toffee: In a medium saucepan, melt butter and brown sugar over medium heat. Bring to a boil and cook for exactly 3 minutes, stirring constantly and scraping the sides of the pan to prevent crystallization.
- Bake: Carefully pour the toffee mixture over the crackers, spreading evenly. Bake for 5 minutes, then remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes.
- Add chocolate: Melt chocolate chips in the microwave in 1-minute bursts, stirring until smooth. Pour over the warm toffee and spread evenly.
- Decorate: Sprinkle with holiday toppings before the chocolate sets.
- Cool and break: Let cool completely (or chill in the fridge) until set. Once hardened, peel off the foil and “crack” into pieces.
