Description
Cheesy Tennessee Onions: A Must-Try Baked Side Dish! Tennessee Onions are a delightful twist on traditional onion rings, combining rich cheese and savory seasonings for a mouthwatering experience. This cheesy baked side dish is sure to impress at any gathering!
Ingredients
- Sweet onions (like Vidalia or Walla Walla, or yellow onions)
- Sharp cheddar cheese
- Mozzarella cheese
- Garlic powder
- Onion powder
- Paprika
- Breadcrumbs (plain or Italian-seasoned)
- Butter (or olive oil for a non-dairy option)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Peel and slice the onions into thick rings, about 1/2 inch wide. Soak them in cold water for about 10 minutes if you want them to be extra sweet.
- In a bowl, combine shredded sharp cheddar cheese, mozzarella cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, and a pinch of paprika. Mix well until the cheeses are evenly coated with the seasonings.
- Take each onion ring and dip it into the cheese mixture, pressing the cheese onto the onion to ensure it sticks. Lay the coated rings on a greased baking sheet.
- In a separate bowl, mix breadcrumbs with melted butter (or olive oil). Stir until the breadcrumbs are well coated, then sprinkle this mixture generously over the cheese-coated onion rings.
- Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until the onions are tender and the tops are golden brown and crispy.
- Once out of the oven, let them cool for a few minutes. Serve warm as a delightful side dish.
