Description

Cheesy Garlic Cruffins are a delightful fusion of flaky croissants and tender muffins, filled with a savory garlic and cheese mixture. These buttery treats are perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a satisfying snack, offering an irresistible blend of flavors.

Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Dough:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) instant yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm milk (about 110°F or 43°C)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • For the Filling:
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a blend)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • For the Topping:
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Extra fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: Mix dry ingredients (flour, salt, sugar, yeast). Combine wet ingredients (milk, melted butter, egg) and add to dry ingredients. Knead dough for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour until doubled.
  2. Prepare the Filling: In a bowl, combine shredded cheese, minced garlic, softened butter, parsley (if using), salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  3. Shape the Cruffins: Punch down risen dough and roll into a 12×18 inch rectangle. Spread the cheese and garlic filling evenly. Roll tightly from a long side into a log, then pinch to seal. Cut into 12 equal pieces. Place cut side up in a greased muffin tin.
  4. Second Rise: Cover the muffin tin and let the cruffins rise for another 30 minutes.
  5. Bake the Cruffins: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the tops with melted butter and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Cool in the tin for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  6. Serve: Garnish with parsley if desired. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Add dried herbs like oregano or thyme to the filling for extra flavor.
  • Include red pepper flakes in the filling for a spicy version.
  • Experiment with different cheeses like feta or gouda for unique tastes.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, refrigerate for up to a week, or freeze for up to a month.
  • Dough can be prepared ahead and refrigerated overnight.
  • Baked cruffins can be frozen, wrapped tightly, and reheated before serving.
