Description
Candied Orange Slices are glossy, sweet, and zesty citrus rounds simmered in sugar syrup until perfectly translucent. These chewy, jewel-like treats are perfect for garnishing desserts, gifting, or enjoying as a snack.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2–3 medium oranges, thinly sliced (about ¼-inch thick)
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 cups water
- Additional granulated sugar, for rolling (optional)
- Parchment paper or wire rack, for drying
Instructions
- Scrub oranges under warm water and slice into ¼-inch thick rounds. Remove any seeds.
- In a medium saucepan, combine sugar and water. Heat over medium until the sugar dissolves and the mixture starts to bubble.
- Reduce heat to low. Add orange slices in a single layer and simmer for 40–60 minutes, flipping occasionally, until translucent.
- Transfer slices to a wire rack or parchment-lined sheet. Let dry for 12–24 hours or until no longer sticky.
- Roll slices in granulated sugar once dry for extra sparkle.
- Keep in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks or refrigerate up to 1 month.
Notes
- These slices can be used as a garnish for cakes or cocktails.
- Store in a cool, dry place for best results.
