Description
These cabbage steaks with cheese are a simple yet flavorful way to turn an everyday vegetable into a delicious dish. Thick slices of cabbage are brushed with olive oil, seasoned with garlic and spices, and roasted in the oven until tender and slightly caramelized. A layer of melted cheese on top adds richness and a satisfying golden finish.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 large head green cabbage
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (optional for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or foil for easier cleanup.
- Remove any damaged outer leaves from the cabbage. Place the cabbage on a cutting board and slice it into ¾–1 inch thick steaks. You should get about 4–6 slices, depending on the size of the cabbage.
- Arrange the cabbage steaks in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
- Brush both sides of the cabbage slices with olive oil. Sprinkle evenly with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes if using.
- Place the baking sheet in the oven and roast the cabbage steaks for 20 minutes, or until the edges begin to turn golden and slightly crispy.
- Remove the cabbage from the oven and sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly over each steak.
- Return the baking sheet to the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and sprinkle with fresh parsley if desired. Serve immediately while warm.
