- 500 grams Plain Flour (Can use all-purpose flour.)
- 1 teaspoon Salt (Important for balancing taste.)
- 250 milliliters Lukewarm Water (Temperature should be warm to touch.)
- 3 tablespoons Sunflower Oil (Can substitute with olive oil for a different flavor.)
- 500 grams Minced Beef or Lamb (Use a mix for richer taste.)
- 2 medium Onions (Finely chop for even distribution.)
- 1 teaspoon Ground Black Pepper (Adjust quantity to taste.)
- 1 teaspoon Paprika (Adjust quantity to taste.)
- 100 grams Melted Butter Mixed with Sunflower Oil (Brush generously before and after baking.)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 200°C (392°F) and lightly oil a round baking dish.
- In a bowl, mix flour and salt, then gradually add lukewarm water until a soft dough forms. Knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth, coat with oil, and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- Combine minced meat, chopped onions, salt, pepper, and paprika in a bowl. Add a few tablespoons of water to keep things moist and flavorful.
- Divide your rested dough into 4 balls. Roll each one into paper-thin sheets, stretching gently.
- Lay out a pastry sheet, brush with the melted butter and oil mixture, place a line of filling, roll it up into a log shape, then coil it into a spiral. Nestle each spiral into your prepared baking dish.
- Brush the top of your Burek with the butter oil, bake for 35-40 minutes, or until golden brown. Remember to turn it halfway for even baking.
- Let your beautifully baked Burek rest for about 10 minutes before cutting into wedges. Serve warm.
