Ingredients

  • 8 oz lo mein noodles
  • 1 lb flank steak (thinly sliced against the grain)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 inch piece of ginger (grated)
  • 1 each bell pepper (sliced (any color))
  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • 1 cup snap peas
  • 1 each carrot (julienned)
  • 4 each green onions (chopped)
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (for thickening)
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • for garnish sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook the lo mein noodles according to package instructions until al dente, then drain and rinse under cold water.
  2. In a medium bowl, season the sliced flank steak with salt, pepper, and 1 tablespoon of soy sauce and let marinate for 15 minutes.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat and sear the marinated beef for 2-3 minutes until browned, then set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger, sautéing for 30 seconds.
  5. Add the sliced bell pepper, broccoli florets, snap peas, and julienned carrot, stir-frying for 3-4 minutes until tender-crisp.
  6. Return the cooked beef to the skillet, then add the cooked lo mein noodles, remaining soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, and sesame oil, tossing to coat.
  7. Pour in the cornstarch mixture and stir well, cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  8. Remove from heat, stir in the chopped green onions, and serve hot, garnished with sesame seeds if desired.
