Description

A timeless Amish broccoli salad featuring fresh broccoli, crisp vegetables, smoky bacon, and a sweet creamy dressing. This salad is perfect for potlucks and family gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 4 cups fresh broccoli
  • ½ cup red onion, diced
  • 1 cup bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • ½ cup sunflower seeds
  • ½ cup raisins or dried cranberries
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 3 tbsp sugar or honey
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Wash broccoli and cut into bite-sized florets.
  2. Dice the red onion.
  3. Cook bacon until crispy, then crumble.
  4. In a large bowl, combine broccoli, onion, cheddar cheese, raisins, and sunflower seeds.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, sugar or honey, salt, and pepper for the dressing.
  6. Pour the dressing over the broccoli mixture and toss to coat.
  7. Sprinkle crumbled bacon on top and mix lightly.
  8. Cover and refrigerate for at least one hour before serving.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, substitute part of the mayonnaise with Greek yogurt.
  • Try sliced grapes instead of raisins for a fresher sweetness.
  • Roasted almonds or pecans can be used instead of sunflower seeds.
